Fantastic Weekend Attractions
Short of something to do this sunny weekend? Why not head out to Hamilton tomorrow and Govan on Sunday for attraction-packed Community Fire Station Open Days.
Hamilton's open day, from 10.30am-4.30pm tomorrow, will run next door to the dramatic Scottish Rescue Challenges which we are hosting at SFR Headquarters. The challenges will include road traffic collision “cutouts” and line rescues on the tower at the Technical Rescue Training Centre.
Teams from 12 UK Fire & Rescue services and one regular overseas entrant, Valencia from Spain, will compete.
Hamilton’s open day will include a chip pan fire demonstration, Trossachs Search & Rescue dogs and vintage fire appliances kept spick and span by Strathclyde Fire & Rescue Preservation Society. The station will also host an Anthony Nolan clinic to recruit donors to the bone marrow register, and Occupational Health will be on hand with advice on issues such as smoking cessation.
The open day at Govan Community Fire Station, at Govan Road on Glasgow’s south side, will be opened at 11am on Sunday by the newly crowned Govan Fair Queen. Like Hamilton, the day will feature a chip pan fire demo and vintage appliances. Among many other attractions will be a bouncy castle and face painting for younger children and an RTC “cutout” to highlight to local young people the vital need for safe driving.
IS YOUR CAR DIRTY?
Take it along to Knightswood Fire Station at 373 Anniesland Road, Glasgow, tomorrow, Saturday 5th, for a free wash. Voluntary Donations go to the Fire Fighters Charity. The car wash runs from 9.30pm-3.30pm.
